Derek Mortland raced motorcycles for six years before being paralyzed in a racing accident. After a long hiatus, he learned to race again in cars with the National Auto Sport Association. He is currently the NASA Great Lakes High Performance Driving Experience Level 2 Co-Leader and was 2015 Instructor of the Year. He won TTF Championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015, was runner up in the 2016 TTE Championship and on-course to be runner up in the 2019 TT4 Championship.
During the week, Derek serves as President of Advanced Access, LLC providing training and consultation on the Americans with Disabilities Act. He has previously taught guitar classes at the Dublin, OH Community Recreation Center, served as a program coordinator for Win-Win Institute facilitating re-entry programs at Marion Correctional Institute and held positions as a teaching artist and artist services coordinator with VSA arts of Ohio and the Ohio Arts Council.
Derek has also extensively studied and practiced meditation, mindfulness, martial arts, and eastern philosophy through various teachers and organizations. He has found a way to help and serve others at work, at play and even while racing. He will share with us insights on how we can all connect and make the most out of our passions by helping others. It is in giving that we receive.
